Dorset records highest rise in hate crime reports

There has been more reports of hate crime in Dorset than anywhere else in England and Wales since the EU referendum.

Latest figures out today show police were told about 104 incidents between July and September 2016.

They are the first quarterly figures since Britain voted to leave the EU on June 23rd.

In three four months before the referendum, officers were told about 52 hate crimes;

an increase of 100%.

Nationally, 14000 hate crimes were recorded in the four months to September 2016.

The National Police Chiefs’ Council says it’s aware global events have the potential to have a short term impact, but they’re insisting forces are acting robustly to bring levels back down.
