Bournemouth Council receives £156,000 to tackle rough sleeping

The funding will assist people living on the streets and those at risk of becoming homeless in Bournemouth.

“We continue to face significant challenges locally, but we are committed to using these funds alongside existing provision to ensure a real and lasting impact.”

Councillor Robert Lawton, Cabinet Member for Housing, said: “We are delighted to receive confirmation of this additional funding. It is a welcome addition to the services we already have in place to prevent and relieve rough sleeping in Bournemouth, including the established rough sleeper team delivered by St Mungo’s, our Housing First project and a pathway of supported housing for those with support needs.”

He adds: “We continue to face significant challenges locally, but we are committed to using these funds alongside existing provision to ensure a real and lasting impact.”

3 ‘Navigator’ roles will be introduced to assist people sleeping rough to find suitable accommodation.

According to the Ministry of Housing Communities and Local Government (MHCLG), “navigators should be able to offer personalised, creative, innovative and effective support and be a single point of contact, building trust with clients, working in an inclusive way and empowering clients to achieve”.

This comes after campaigners and clients from homeless charity, St Mungo’s, sent an open letter to the Secretary of State for Housing, urging the government to put an end to rough sleeping and ensure everyone has a home for good.

Over 21,300 people have signed the ‘Home for Good’ letter.
