Red Arrow pilot memorial

The exhibition crated by Bournemouth pupils in memory of Jon Egging, Red Arrows pilot who died after an air show display last August, is now on display.

Designs created by Bournemouth pupils for an exhibition of the memorial for Red Arrow pilot Jon Egging are now on display at Bournemouth library.

Fight Lieutenant Egging’s widow, Dr Emma Egging and his mother Dawn chose Kinson Primary School as the winner of the competition.

Councillor John Beesly, leader of Bournemouth Borough Council said that it’s wonderful that kids were able to put forward their ideas for the memorial of Jon Eggings.

Cllr John Beesley added: “We know that people want somewhere where they can pay their respects, and pause to remember the magnificent Red Arrow displays that Lieutenant Egging was part of, and I am extremely proud that the Council is able to make that happen for Emma, Dawn and Jon’s friends and colleagues.”

Red Arow pilot died during air show.

The inspiration for the final design for the memorial will be formed from three combined themes: a formation of soaring planes showing teamwork and achievement, and the symbolism of the great British countryside.

Besides Kinson Primary School, artist Tim Ward will also be working pupils from St Walburga’s and Elmrise Primary Schools and Oakmead Technology College, whose project also inspired the final design.

The exhibition runs until 2nd of April 2012.
