Outside: Transgender homeless youth

Thousands of transgender people face the fear of sleeping rough every day across the world.

Thousands of transgender people face the fear of sleeping rough every day across the world.

‘Outside’ investigates why young trans people are so vulnerable to becoming homeless and understand what the barriers are to safe accommodation.

It follows the story of Shea Freedom, a trans musician from Los Angeles who lived in 28 different foster placements and emancipated into homelessness at a young age. He now travels around to advocate for LGBTQ+ youth and foster youth, using music as a platform to spread the message of equality, inclusion and acceptance.

I was lucky enough to catch Shea on his UK tour at Bristol Pride and visit a LGBT youth group in Southampton with him to share his experiences with the group.
