The game has been downloaded over 500 million times, making it the most downloaded game of all time. A Facebook version of the hugely successful mobile game Angry birds will be launched on the social network this Valentine’s day.

The Facebook version of the famous small game, created by Finnish software developer Rovio Mobile, will give players the chance to compete against each other.

The game involves using a slingshot to fling birds at rickety structures in order to knock them down and kill the pigs inside.

Utku Uysun, 25, said: “It will be more fun to see others score and compete with them.”

Since 2009 12 millions copies of game have been purchased in the Apple app Store. Last year the game was made available to play for free in Google’s Chrome Browser.

The question is whether the Facebook version of the game will be attract players who already have it on their smart phones and mobile devices.

Ksenia Kucherenko, 23, said: “I would still prefer to use the iPhone version of the game rather than the Facebook version.”

Just like the hugely popular Facebook game Farmville,  Angry Birds will be free to download on Facebook and will feature many social components.

Andrew Clyne, 39, said: “I do not normally play games but I would play this one I guess. Since it will be free I would definitely give it a try.”

Although the game will be free to play, Rovio is hoping to make a profit with in-game purchases such as ‘ultimate power-ups’ and exclusive Facebook levels.

The Facebook  Angry Birds tie-in will be launched first in Jakarta, the capital of Indonesia, which is Facebook’s largest market outside of the United States.

According to Rovio the game has been downloaded over 500 million times, making it the most downloaded game of all time.

After the 14 February we will see whether Facebook with its 850 million users will help Angry birds to extend this record.
