Poole Lighthouse to host Holocaust Memorial Day

Holocaust Memorial Day will take place in Lighthouse in Poole this coming Sunday at 2 pm to remember the horrors committed during World War Two.

This memorial event will consist of two speeches and one performance. Janine Webber, a survivor from the Lvov ghetto will come to speak and a young Jewish adult will also talk about her recent trip to Poland.

A group of young people will be performing their interpretation of the theme for Holocaust Memorial Day 2013: Communities Together: Building a Bridge. The performers are from Forest Forge Youth Theatre,  Oak Lodge Special School, Dorset School of Acting and St Aldhelm’s Academy.

The ticket is free and now available from the Lighthouse office or contact living.judaism@ntlworld.com, advanced reservation is suggested, said Lynda Ford-Horne, the chair of Bournemouth & Poole Holocaust Memorial Committee.

The essence of this year’s memorial is to encourage all the communities in Bournemouth and Poole to work together and make a better future.

Holocaust Memorial Day was first set up by the Home Office in the UK in 2001 and became an international memorial day in 2005. It commemorates the victims of the Holocaust by the Nazi regime and its collaborators.

The motivation of these events on Holocaust Memorial Day is to use message of the past to make a better future, said Mrs Ford-Horne.
