JP Morgan donation helps local hospice

A donation of £1500 helped Lewis Manning Hospice in Poole to buy a new reclining chair for their new building opening in June this year.

The JP Morgan donation allowed for the new chair to be added to a patient’s bedroom in the new building of the Time to care that will house a new in-patient unit and a gym for physiotherapy.

The local hospice has been providing aid to patients of cancer and other life limiting illnesses since 1992. It is a day hospice along with a breathlessness clinic and a lymphoedema clinic. However all that is soon to change as the hospice looks to expand its services by providing facilities for the patients to stay within the hospice.

The hospice launched ‘The Time to care appeal’, in 2010, to raise around £2.8 million pounds for its new facilities. 1/3 of the hospice funding comes from the NHS Bournemouth and Poole Primary Care Trust, but the majority is from the fund-raising events.

“We are constantly fund-raising. We need approximately £50,000 each month to run this hospice and majority of our money comes from fund-raising,” said a representative of the fund-raising team at the hospice.

According to the team, their task is soon going to increase because the new unit would require more finance to run each month. “With the new unit being added the running cost is expected to rise and we will have to raise more money,” she added.

“So many of us have been affected ourselves or know someone who has been diagnosed with cancer and we are pleased to have been able to offer some support in this way,” commented Linda Jessop from JP Morgan.

“We do get support from local community and other trusts in the area. It is usually the local branch of JP Morgan that helps us, however there have not been much national donations coming in,” said the representative at the hospice.
