CHerries playing Leyton Orient

Weekend defeat leaves Cherries out of top six

A 3-1 defeat to Leyton Orient this weekend saw the Cherries drop out of the top six promotion places, continuing their poor run of form.

AFC Bournemouth have now lost four consecutive games, three in which they were unable to score, and club boss Eddie Howe has urged his players to cut out mistakes and stop conceding avoidable goals.

The manager said: “We can only work harder, try and be smarter, try and do things that will benefit the players. There is no magic formula in this game. We have to do the basics right because we have to earn the right to win games.”

“We were doing that in the unbeaten run and we need to keep our belief. We have to have the confidence to go out on the pitch and be better than our opponents. We will be working hard with the players in that respect.”

It has been a difficult period for the team recently, but Howe said he is confident that the players work hard and get back on track and thanked fans for their continued support.

He said: “They say that winning can become a habit yes and we don’t want losing to be a habit now. I don’t see there being too much of an issue at the moment with the run we are on, but we know it must end. We need to perform better than we have been and I’m confident that we will.

“What will help us is the support we have been getting. They have been excellent and they stayed at the end of the Orient game and applauded the players, which was much appreciated. We are all just disappointed that we didn’t give them any points to go home with.”

AFC Bournemouth have 58 points, and have dropped to seventh place in League One, out of the promotion play-off spots. They will take on league leaders Doncaster Rovers on Saturday 9 March at home.
