Dorset Police crackdown on mobile phone drivers

Dorset police are carrying out extra patrols to crackdown on drivers using their mobile phones behind the wheel.

A stricter law has been passed today which will enforce tougher penalties for the offence.

Anyone caught using their mobile phones whilst driving will face six points on their licence and a £200 fine, which is double what it had been previously.

This also means that if new drivers get caught they will have their licences taken away from them and they will have to re-take their tests.

Sergeant Joe Pardey, from the Alliance Roads Policing department, said: “We want to make using a mobile whilst driving as socially unacceptable as drink or drug driving.”

Winton residents share their thoughts on the stricter penalties in the video below.
