[/show_hide] [show_hide title=”COLUMN 1″]A new charging system is being proposed to ensure consistency and fairness to all and to reflect the actual cost of services to the Council and ensures that residents contribute towards the cost of their care based on their ability to pay using a financial assessment.
A report detailing the change to the system has been considered by the Council’s Health and Overview and Scrutiny Panel and will now be subject to approval at Cabinet on 17 October 2012. Consultation has taken place with all residents who currently access adult social care non-residential services and the changes would apply to:[/show_hide] [show_hide title=”COLUMN 2″]
Day opportunities (e.g. group activities, attending a day centre and trips out)
Transport (e.g. travelling to and from a day centre)
Home care
Night care (e.g. both short visits during the night and where a carer stays over night)
Disability Related Expenses (DRE) (extra money required to live independently e.g. for cleaning, laundry and specialist diet)[/show_hide] [show_hide title=”2ND PARAGRAPH”]Councillor Blair Crawford, Cabinet Member for Adult Social Care, said: “Adult Social Care Services is very important and is of high priority to this Council and so it is essential that we can continue to fund these services to support those residents who need them most. “We have given careful consideration to the services we provide for adult social care and how we currently charge for them. In some instances, such as day care, the service is currently heavily subsidised and doesn’t reflect the true cost and the Council cannot continue to afford to deliver this service using the current charges.[/show_hide] [show_hide title=”COLUMN 1″]”The changes to the charging system will ensure that they are fair and transparent and that the most vulnerable receive the help they need. “We will be doing all we can to support residents through these changes and protecting the most vulnerable remains our key priority. We have listened to feedback from the consultation and we will be delaying the implementation of the charging system to allow more time for residents to prepare for the changes and consider any help and support that they may require.”[/show_hide] [show_hide title=”COLUMN 2″]Source an image from a copyright free source to go into this column.
