Poole Town striker Constable to play part-time

James Constable, on loan from National League side Eastleigh for the remainder of the season, announced he will no longer be a full-time footballer, after a 15-year career in the game.

Constable announced the decision online yesterday, suggesting that he’s “getting prepared for the next chapter of [his] life.”

Former Oxford United and Shrewsbury Town man, Constable, said he will be training two evenings a week for the remainder of Poole Town’s season, which sees them pushing for a playoff position in the Southern League.

“It’s the first time in my life I’ve had to get a CV done.”

While Constable says he would “love to stay in football”, he also says he’s happy to broaden his horizons.

“It’s the first time in my life I’ve had to get a CV done and I’m genuinely excited.”

The forward, who has been praised for his versatility throughout his career, has scored 7 goals in 14 starts this season and re-signed on a season-long loan for the Dolphins after featuring on loan in last season’s relegation battle in National League South.

Poole Town F.C. Chairman Chris Reeves was full of praise for the frontman and described Constable as “an exceptional character.”

Reeves also said that Constable still brings “quality and humility” to the pitch, even at 34.

The Chairman says he fully backs the striker’s decision to play part-time and hopes he remains in the game in some capacity.

“James is obviously looking to earn his living, hopefully from football, or in other ways, when his contract with Eastleigh comes to an end.”

“He’s an inspiration in the way that he defends from the front.”

Reeves also credited Constable for the work-rate he’s displayed this season, as well as the way in which he spearheads the team’s attacks.

“He’s an inspiration in the way that he defends from the front and we like to play in a system where the striker is able to hold the ball up and bring the midfielders into play. James does that to perfection.”

James Constable remains on loan with the Dolphins until the end of the season, with his Eastleigh F.C. contract expiring in June.

Poole Town F.C. take on Tiverton Town F.C. this evening as 5th placed Poole look to cement their position as playoff contenders.
