A shakeup of BBC Radio One’s presenting lineup has led to speculation that the move is designed to oust DJ Chris Moyles from the station’s breakfast slot.

Controller Ben Cooper announced the changes will see mid-afternoon presenter Greg James and drive time presenter Scott Mills swap roles.

Many, including former News of The World showbiz editor Dan Wooton, have speculated on Twitter that the move may be part of a plan to replace Moyles, 38, with the younger James ,26, when his contract runs out in 2014.

Moyles Twitter

On his show this morning Moyles lampooned Wootton, he said: “He lost his job at the News of the World and nobody has told him. It’s like, ‘I am showbiz news man. I do showbiz news’. It’s like, ‘Dan what are you doing? You’re in Greggs queuing’

“There have been stories about me leaving Radio 1 for the last four years and they’re still going.

“I’m not going anywhere.”

Moyles and Wootton continued their spat on Twitter:

The reshuffle also includes new shows for fresh presenting talent such as Gemma Cairney from digital sister station 1Xtra, Danny Howard, who was discovered through BBC talent search and Channel Four presenter Jameela Jamil.

The schedule changes will take affect from Monday 2 April.
