At least eight Palestinian children have been killed in a “horrific” accident when a school bus collided with a truck near north Jerusalem today.

Collision is the West Bank just north of Jerusalem

The accident occurred on a busy road in the West Bank, north of Jerusalem, when an Israeli truck hit a Palestinian school bus.

“The bus flipped over and burst into flames,” said a police statement.

Police spokeswoman Luba Samri said: “There are between eight and 10 Palestinian children dead, aged between 10 and 16, and more than 30 injured who were taken to various hospitals in the area.”

But a spokesman for Israel’s emergency services put the injury toll at closer to 40 and said the wounded had been taken to hospitals in both Israel and the West Bank city of Ramallah.

The truck driver was also injured in the impact.
