Dorset kids to compete in “mini-Olympics”

Local schoolchildren will get to participate in their own “mini-Olympics” later this year.

With the Olympics round the corner, kids are not being forgotten. Children will be picking up their trainers and joining in the fun later this year.

The Mini Beasts Playclub is organising a mini-Olympics for kids between 5 and 11 from its play clubs in Somerset, Dorset and Hampshire, from July 30-August 3 this year.

After a grand opening ceremony, the children will join in Olympics-themed events planned by their club leaders.

Louise Skinner, marketing manager of the Mini Beasts Playclub, said: “The sports planned include athletics, football and gymnastics, among others. All the activities are age appropriate and the kids will get to train for it as well. Children across the clubs in the different counties will compete, after which results will be compared to determine the ultimate Mini Beasts Olympic champions.”

The Mini Beasts has previously organised competitions and other outings for children based in Bournemouth, Boscombe, Wimborne, Poole, Portsmouth, Newport and Taunton.

Thorough risk assessments have been carried out prior to the competition to ensure the childrens’ safety.
