Mark Donnelly, a driver from Northern Ireland won his first ever international event in the Renault Clio R3 in a record time of one hour and seven minutes. Our reporters went to watch the MSA British Rally Championships on Saturday. Mark Donnelly, a driver from Northern Ireland won his first ever international event in the Renault Clio R3 in a record time of one hour and seven minutes. We were also present at the opening of the Poole’s Twin Sails Bridge to the public for the first time on Saturday morning. We witnessed the first lifting of the bridge and got the chance to walk across it for the first time, along with local residents and many members of Poole Borough of Council. Police have arrested two people after a pedestrian was seriously injured when he was hit by a car in a West Dorset village, and Dorset police are forensically examining the vehicle.

Bournemouth University could welcome more Indian students in the next academic year. BU representatives went to visit India for a week to meet with the potential students, academic institutions and alumnis.

Ever thought of volunteering? A national family charity is looking for people willing to help local parents after they’ve had their first child. The ‘Let’s Stick Together’ programme aims to give new parents advice on how to maintain their relationship while raising their first child.

Gypsy council slams traveller protests

The Gypsy Council says objections to proposed Bournemouth traveller sites are ‘bogus’ to avoid accusations of ethnic discrimination by opponents. Three of the proposed sites, identified by Dorset Councils to meet the needs of gypsies and travellers, are at Throop and Muscliff in Bournemouth. The fourth site is at Lansdowne. Gypsy Council Chairman Joseph Jones said people will object, wherever the site is.
