Bournemouth residents will soon be able to watch their favourite films in the town centre on Friday (10 Feb) as the new Odeon cinema opens its doors for the first time.

As part of the new BH2 Complex, the cinema boasts ten screens, as well as sitting adjacent to several new restaurant chains. The decision was made to leave the long time home of Odeon on Westover Road after nearly 90 years of screening films there in 2015.

The move and subsequent selling of the old cinema to make way for flats was opposed by the Bournemouth Civic Society who described the motion in a statement as “we have never seen such an inept bringing together of incompatible historicist and modernist built forms in such a totally insensitive and downright ugly form”.
