Over 700 students signed a petition to stop the leader of the Justice for Men and Boys party giving a talk at the university.

The controversial men’s rights politician has previously given ‘awards’ such as “Lying Feminist of the Month” and “Whiny Feminist of the Month”.

Professor Eric Anderson had arranged for Mike Buchanan to deliver the talk in Winchester to debate gender issues.

The university’s decision to host the “‘Equal rights for men and women” prompted a backlash.

“I feel so ashamed of my university, which prides itself on it’s ‘social justice values’, for giving hate speech like this a platform.”

The petition created by university students on Change.org stated: “While feminism welcomes men and discusses men’s issues, this group is not inclusive or concerned with equality for all.”

One student said:  “I feel so ashamed of my university, which prides itself on it’s ‘social justice values’, for giving hate speech like this a platform.”

Elizabeth Hobson, Director of Communications for Justice for Men and Boys, responded to the decision to scrap the talk saying: “Not only was official permission obtained but Professor Anderson had informed the Feminist Society on campus, as well as the Conservative Society, the leaders of which both expressed interest in seeing the events go ahead.”
