Bournemouth Foodbank may face food shortages this winter unless action is taken to improve the new Universal Credit system, which is replacing benefits.

According to The Trussell Trust, people have to wait 6 weeks between enrolling and receiving their first payment. For many this means relying on a foodbank in between.

Debbie Bramley, Project Director of Bournemouth Foodbank says they are “concerned that with the implementation of Universal Credit, they are going to see a massive increase” in foodbank use.
