Elphick spared lengthy injury

February 5, 2013 //  by Joshua Longmore

Ryan Lowe tackle on Tommy Elphick

Serious injury fears have been lifted after a scan reveals Cherries defender Tommy Elphick has bruising to the tibia and femur, says AFC Bournemouth.

The news comes following a two-footed tackle from MK Dons forward Ryan Lowe at the Stadium:mk football ground last week, seeing the Dons reduced to ten men and the Cherries captain subbed off before half time.

The club have announced the player will be out for two to three weeks. Elphick said: “It’s a disgrace to football”, and the three match ban handed to Lowe was not enough.

Ryan Lowe said: “I deserved to be sent-off, I will take the punishment – it will cost me in my pocket as well as missing three vital games to help this Club get to where we want to get to.

“It’ not me, it’s out of character and all I can do is apologise”, he added.

But Elphick took to Twitter this weekend to criticise the player for not apologising to him, his followers calling the challenge a horror tackle.

The news has been welcomed by fans after concerns of a lengthy recovery ahead.

Despite the injury, AFC Bournemouth beat the MK Dons 3-0, and currently sit at third place in League One. Their next game is a derby at home against south-coast rivals Portsmouth on Saturday.
