British singer, Engelbert Humperdinck has been chosen as the UK’s representative in this year’s Eurovision Song contest.

The 75-year-old star will take part in the contest this May.

Engelbert dubbed the ‘King of Romance’ is best known for 1967 single ‘Release Me’, keeping The Beatles’ ‘ Strawberry Fields Forever’ off the number one spot. He follows in the footsteps of boy band, Blue who finished 11th last year, behind Ireland’s Jedward, who are due to take part again this year.

The singer said that it is an “absolute honour to represent his country” and was “excited and raring to go”.

The last UK win was in 1997 when ‘Katrina And The Waves’ – fronted by American singer Katrina Leskanich – took the honours with ‘Love Shine A Light’.
