Fire on South West train causes hours of transport delays

January 24, 2013 //  by Xialu Wang

A fire that broke out on a train at Upwey Station caused delays of up to 3 hours this morning.

Corinne O’Loughlin, a representative of South West Trains, said: “the fire broke out between the conductor rail and the gear beneath” on the 5.55am service from Weymouth to London Waterloo.

None of the 20 passengers on board were injured, and the fire was quickly extinguished by the train crew with emergency services being called as a precaution.

As a response to delays, South West Trains put in place a bus replacement service between Dorchester South and Weymouth, whilst the damaged train was moved and normal service resumed soon after 9am.

O’Loughlin said that South West Trains “would like to apologise to our passengers for any inconvenience caused.”
