Young politicians to be first across new bridge
The mayor of Poole has promised that the 12 candidates who shone at last Friday's UKYP elections will have the honour of joining dignitaries on the first crossing of the new Twin Sails Bridge. The community event to celebrate the opening of the bridge,will take place on the 24th and 25th February, before the bridge is finally open to traffic on the 27th.
Macaque monkeys saved from lab trials
Sixty macaque monkeys were saved from being transported to the US for experiments after a campaign touched animal lovers worldwide, according to the People for the Ethical Treatments of Animals.

74 dead in Egypt football riot
Football violence in Port Said resulted in 76 dead and hundreds of injuries. Three days of national mourning have been declared after the incident. It is feared that the violence will continue as the Al Ahly Ultras (radical fans) called for revenge. An upcoming match in the Cairo stadium between Al Ismailiya and Zamalek has been cancelled in light of the football violence.

Fantastic result for young Dorset skier
The best Nordic skier Great Britain has ever had Andrew Musgrave is currently training in Norway with some of the world's finest athletes. He has been world number one in his age group and is the first British cross-country skier ever to gain a place in the top 30 of a World event. In an unexpected turn of events he came second in the mens skiing 15K freestyle at the Norwegian National Championships in Voss, Norway.
Applications to Bournemouth University fall 15%
Applications to Bournemouth University have dropped by 15.2% compared to the national average of 7.4%, according to figures released today.
The university however pointed out it had raised its entry requirements for 2012 although says it can be assumed fee rises are affecting numbers too.

Mary Tyler Moore was honored with the Annual Life Achievement award at The Screen Actors Guild Awards Ceremony last night in L.A.
The actress was presented with the trophy by her co-star of 50 years, Dick Van Dyke. The two starred together in the 60’s American sitcom, ‘The Dick Van Dyke Show’.
Nuclear team can stay, says Iran
The Iranian Foreign Minister has said that the International Atomic Agency Company (IAEA) delegation currently visiting the country can extend its stay if it wishes to.
The Islamic Republic News Agency has quoted Ali Akbar Salehi as saying: "We are very optimistic on the results of the IAEA trip. They are here for a three-day trip, and if they want, it [the mission] could be extended”.
