£4m Poole community centre

Poole church has fundraised£100,000 towards redeveloping the church into a £4m community centre. Poole Methodists' church in the High St wants to make the most of thousands of people who walk past every day, said minister Fraser Smith. Poole High Street Methodist Church "Our vision for this community is that the church has a wonderful location, we can build a church centre, " said Rev Smith.

Bournemouth Council is organising apprenticeship schemes to tackle youth unemployment. In a recent council meeting, Councillor Barry Goldbart, cabinet member for Education and Children's Services, said that the council has been working closely with businesses across Dorset to organise employability schemes for 16-24 year-olds.

Gypsy council slams traveller protests

The Gypsy Council says objections to proposed Bournemouth traveller sites are ‘bogus’ to avoid accusations of ethnic discrimination by opponents. Three of the proposed sites, identified by Dorset Councils to meet the needs of gypsies and travellers, are at Throop and Muscliff in Bournemouth. The fourth site is at Lansdowne. Gypsy Council Chairman Joseph Jones said people will object, wherever the site is.

B-Reel film screening review

The B-Reel film-screening events at Pavilion Dance are receiving increasingly large turn-outs allowing directors, film makers and artists the chance to share inspiration. This month's screening on January 19th was the third B-Reel event organised by Strawberry Lantern Events, which gives creatives in the film industry a chance to showcase their work and gain crucial contacts in the South of England. The display of 12 short films, sourced from local and international talent contained a mixture of animation, drama and captivating photography.

Kite surfers exploit mild temperatures

The mild temperature this weekend have enticed kite surfers back into the sea at the famous Sandbanks peninsula. Yesterday temperatures at Sandbanks soared to 13C, in stark contrast to this time last year where temperatures averaged at 3C. Local kite surfer Leo said: “Last year at this time it wasn't possible because there was snow, I didn't come down here because it was very very cold, today it is very mild, it is perfect for us.
